What Is MOTUS?
MOTUS is a plant-based daily supplement by Tonum, designed to support fat metabolism while helping preserve lean muscle. Its five active ingredients, led by Berbevis berberine, were evaluated in a 26-week human study in which participants lost 10.4% of body weight on average, a study result, not a guarantee. It is made for adults who want research-grounded metabolic support without synthetic stimulants.
What's in MOTUS
MOTUS combines five actives in one daily serving (4 capsules):
| Ingredient | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Berbevis® Berberine (berberine phospholipid) | Fat-metabolism support. Berbevis is a phytosome form of berberine developed to address berberine's well-documented absorption problem, giving better absorption than standard berberine HCl; berberine has been studied in a meta-analysis of 46 trials in type 2 diabetes. |
| Siliphos® Milk Thistle | Liver-health support, the liver is central to fat metabolism; studied as silymarin as an antioxidant liver therapy. |
| Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA) | Supports cellular energy production, and has been examined for body weight in a meta-analysis of randomized trials. |
| Taurine | Supports cellular energy and metabolic function; research describes taurine, a 'very essential' amino acid. |
| Nicotinamide (Vitamin B3) | Supports metabolic efficiency, a form of vitamin B3 (niacin). |
No synthetic stimulants and no unnecessary fillers.
The research behind MOTUS
MOTUS grew out of more than eight years of research in collaboration with Duke University scientists.
The 26-week human study. 100 adults (ages 25 to 68, BMI 25+) took MOTUS for 26 weeks without prescribed calorie restriction. Results, presented at Obesity Week:
- 10.4% average weight loss across all participants
- 87% of weight lost was fat, with lean mass largely preserved
- Participants with the healthiest diet and exercise habits averaged 14.8%; even the group with poor diet and no exercise averaged 7.7%
- No major or long-lasting side effects were reported
The study was conducted with Duke-affiliated researchers, funded by Tonum, and presented as a scientific poster at Obesity Week; it was open-label (all participants received MOTUS, with no placebo group) and has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal. Individual results vary, and a supplement works best alongside real food and movement.
The scientific bench. Tonum's research program is led by Chief Scientific Officer Nicholas Moore, PhD, and advised by a scientific board that includes Duke University's Chief of Endocrinology David D'Alessio, MD, neurologist Daniel Laskowitz, MD, and molecular physiologist Jon Campbell, PhD.

Who makes MOTUS?
MOTUS is made by Tonum, the consumer brand of Prostasis, LLC, a US company founded by Mark Brosso and led by CEO Lance Converse, both with decades in pharmaceutical data and clinical research. The company was founded after Brosso's father developed early-onset Alzheimer's, with a mission to build natural products held to pharmaceutical-grade research standards.
Who is MOTUS for?
MOTUS is designed for adults who want to support their metabolism naturally, particularly people who notice weight becoming harder to manage with age, and people looking for a natural, stimulant-free option in the GLP-1 era. MOTUS is not a medication and is not a substitute for one; if you take prescription medication, talk to your doctor before adding any supplement.
How to take MOTUS
Take 4 capsules daily, at whatever time fits your routine. If you have a sensitive stomach, split the serving: 2 capsules in the morning and 2 at night, with food. Most users who see changes report them from around 60 days of consistent use; the study ran 26 weeks.
Frequently asked questions
Does MOTUS actually work?
In a 26-week human study of 100 adults, participants lost an average of 10.4% of body weight, with 87% of the loss coming from fat. That is a study result, not a promise; individual results depend on diet, activity and consistency.
Is MOTUS a GLP-1 drug or an Ozempic alternative?
No. MOTUS is a natural supplement, not a GLP-1 medication. Some of its ingredients, notably berberine, are studied for metabolic support, and some people choose MOTUS as a natural option instead of medication. It is not a substitute for a prescription; talk to your doctor.
What are the side effects of MOTUS?
In the 26-week study, no major or long-lasting side effects were reported. Berberine can cause mild digestive upset in some people; taking MOTUS with food and splitting the dose usually helps.
Is MOTUS trustworthy?
MOTUS is developed with Duke-affiliated researchers, manufactured in an NSF-certified cGMP facility in the USA, and third-party tested. More than 10,000 customers have used Tonum products.
Is this the same Motus as the mileage-tracking company?
No. MOTUS by Tonum is a dietary supplement. Motus, the vehicle-reimbursement software company, is unrelated.
Who should not take MOTUS?
If you are pregnant or nursing, take prescription medication (especially for blood sugar), or have a medical condition, consult your physician first. MOTUS is intended for adults.
